Football Predictions Tuesday
Newcastle United v Everton
St James’ Park is the venue for this Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Everton.
Newcastle found themselves 3-1 down on Saturday at home to West Ham United with only fifteen minutes to play, you could understand the fans’ frustration as that result would have left the Magpies four points behind the Hammers but the home side didn’t give up and late goals from Alexander Isak and a Harvey Barnes brace completed the 4-3 comeback in a very entertaining and eventful game. Newcastle have now piled on the pressure for that European place and with Manchester United only taking a point at Brentford, they’ve now closed the gap to sixth place to just five points, game on.
MAGPIES CLOSE THE GAP TO TOP 6
Everton’s struggles continued in the Premier League on Saturday, a trip to the South Coast to face Bournemouth didn’t go their way. The Toffees thought they had guaranteed a point when Beto scored in the 87th minute, just eight minutes after coming off the bench, but nothing sums up Everton’s season so far more than a Seamus Coleman own-goal in the 91st minute that gave the home side all three points.
TOOTHLESS TOFFEES
Newcastle have now put together back-to-back wins at home and are unbeaten in their last four at St James’ Park, whilst Everton haven’t won a game in their last nine games across all competitions. The last five times these two have met in the North East, both teams have scored in four of them and the home side have also taken all three points in four.
Nottingham Forest v Fulham
Nottingham Forest will welcome Fulham to the City Ground on Tuesday evening.
Nottingham Forest came from behind on Saturday in Nottingham as they secured a vital point against Crystal Palace, the Reds climbed back out of the relegation zone on goal difference thanks to their point and Tottenham’s late winner against Luton Town. They’ve now secured back-to-back draws but will be looking to take all three points here and potentially overtake Everton into sixteenth.
BRAZILIAN BRILLIANCE
Fulham travel to the East Midlands looking to keep their recent good form going, the Cottagers have won three of their last five games which has put them just two points from midtable. However, they did leave it late in Sheffield on Saturday, despite being 3-1 down with just five minutes of normal time to play, the side from West London managed to secure a point with two late goals, much to the anger of Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder.
ALL SQUARE IN NOTTINGHAM
You feel like Forest needs to turn some of these recent draws into wins, there isn’t much in their games, usually the odd goal but they tend to be on the wrong end of it, ten of their fifteen home games this season have seen both teams score, but they’ve only managed to win four games at the City Ground. Fulham have only won two away games in the Premier League, I think we could see another draw here.
AFC Bournemouth v Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace will take a trip to the South Coast on Tuesday night as they face AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Bournemouth resumed life in the Premier League where they left off before the international break with a win at the Vitality Stadium. It did take a late own goal for them to secure all three points against Everton but that victory moved the Cherries closer to the top ten, with the gap to the relegation zone now at sixteen points, Bournemouth are almost a certainty to be playing in the Premier League next season.
RELENTLESS CHERRIES
Life under Oliver Glasner has been a bit of a mix in terms of results for Crystal Palace, they’ve won one, drawn two, and lost one under the Austrian but if they don’t start picking up wins, they could find themselves looking over their shoulder in the final games of the season, granted it would take the teams fighting for survival to put a real run together, as the Eagles are eight points clear of the drop, but they’ll want any doubts removed as soon as possible.
BOTH TEAMS ON THE SCORESHEET
This is the fourth consecutive game at home for Bournemouth, in which they’ve won two and drawn one, whilst despite both teams scoring in eight of Crystal Palace’s last nine Premier League games, the Eagles haven’t won in any of those nine games, they could be in for another tough game on the road here.
Burnley v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolves will travel to Lancashire on Tuesday night as they head to Turf Moor to face Premier League strugglers Burnley.
Football is a funny old game, you would have been certain that Burnley would be one of the three teams to be relegated from the Premier League this season but after two draws and one victory in their last three games, they now sit just four points from safety and they’ve given themselves something to fight for as they head into their last eight games of the season. The Clarets showed real fight in West London on Saturday, despite being down to 10 men after 40 minutes, they came from behind twice to secure a much-needed point against Chelsea.
Wolverhampton Wanderers come into this fixture off the back of a pretty tame performance in their West Midlands derby away to Aston Villa where they were defeated 2-0. This trip to Turf Moor won’t be easy for Wolves, not just because of the run that Burnley have put together, they’ve lost their last two away games to nil and have also failed to beat the other two newly promoted sides this season away from home.
CLARETS STURGGLE ON HOME TURF
Burnley have the worst home record in the Premier League this season, just two wins from their fifteen games, they did win last time out in Lancashire although they were up against 10 men after just eight minutes. Wolves will want to put things right after their last two defeats on the road, I think they’ll do that here, 0-2.
Juventus v Lazio
Just three days after these two sides met in Rome in Serie A, they will meet again in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday night, this time in Turin, it’s Juventus v Lazio.
The first leg of the Coppa Italia Semi-Final will see Juventus hoping to put together a much better performance than they did away to Lazio on Saturday evening, with the Old Lady conceding a late goal and increasing their winless streak to four games. Massimilano Allegri will be hoping to add silverware to this season given they won’t be taking home the Scudetto come May, silverware and a Champions League spot will be seen as a relatively successful season for Juventus.
Igor Tudor’s first game in charge of Lazio ended in a win against his former side, a perfect start for the Croatian. He’ll be hoping his side can produce a similar performance here in Turin and give themselves an advantage in the second leg. After a frustrating season so far, Lazio have put together back-to-back wins and they seem to be regaining confidence.
ADVANTAGE JUVENTUS
However, Juventus can take confidence from the fact they’ve won six of their last seven games against Lazio at the Allianz Stadium, they should also be boosted by Dusan Vlahovic’s return following his suspension two weeks ago against Genoa, I think we’ll see a close encounter here with the home side getting the win.
West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur
East London v North London on Tuesday night as West Ham welcomes the visit of Tottenham Hotspur in this London Derby.
West Ham left the pitch up in Newcastle full of frustration, not only did they lose that game after leading 3-1 with just 15 minutes left to play, but they also felt some decisions were very controversial. The frustration would have increased come Saturday evening, with Manchester United only getting one point at Brentford, the Hammers could have found themselves just a point behind the Red Devils as they chased that European spot.
